Another dig ?

Posted by admin - January 20th, 2008

Once Carol starts digging she never stops, it’s her Ancestry now( a murky past I must admit ). It would appear that she has connections dating back to the Border Reivers and they were rustlers thieves and murderers ( I’m sleeping with one eye open from now on ).It must be catching this Ancestry business because Bruce and Patti are at it and its now rubbed of on me ( where will this lead I wonder ? ).

New Feeder
Bought some Nijer seed the other day to see if i could atract more finches into the garden but i had to make a new feeder to take it as it is very tiny seed.It seems to be working as I am now getting a few Goldfinches having a go as you can see.

Family crest

Posted by admin - January 13th, 2008

I Did a bit of name searching on the net the other day and came up with this , it’s the Lister coat of arms or crest if you like.Apparentley the name is thought to have originated in Yorkshire before Hastings 1066 and all that, also pre Norman Conquest so it looks like we go back a fair way . I found two sites (USA) with one very slight difference in the crests but both had different Latin words on, its not easy to get photo’s as you have to pay lots of $ for them, but I cheated and photographed the monitor and came up with this after a bit of work in Picasa.

Feeder Frenzy

Lots of activity on my garden feeders today, nice to see a few Tree sparrows calling in. I think I am keeping a whole flock of Starlings going with my homemade lardy-seed bread. A walk down the dene to top up the two feeding stations with seed and crumb was productive with a gang of long-tailed tits flitting about in front, then we had a buzzard overhead quite a while since I’ve seen one around here. Carol and I spent quite some time watching the Nuthatches coming down to the feeders then flying off to nearby trees and depositing the seeds in behind the bark or in cracks (hope they have a better memory than me ).
