John o Groats
Monday 19 May saw yours truly off on our hols following the east coast up to John o Groats,St Abbs was our first stop over with a lovely walk along the clifftops to the lighthouse and then back via the ever lovely Mire-Loch.
Moved on calling at Dunbar then over the Forth bridge (no toll now) to St Andrews staying around here for a few days, visited a lovely little fishing village at Crail (tide was out) shame about the smell. Award winning fish & chips were next on the list at Anstruther ( not bad ) still not as nice as S/Sluice , St Andrews is as we all know it all golf.
Moved on close to Dundee calling at a few nature reserves on the way,Then up to Arbroath to sample those famous smokies very nice too (shame about the bones).
Up to Nairn now over the Grampian Mountains and part of the Cairngorms past the ski lifts giving us some stunning views over the mountain ranges, then on to Inverness for a look and some liquid gold (fuel ).The Black Isle was next with a trip to the brewery first on the list, then on to Chanonry Point for lunch and some serious Dolphin watching great stuff this a real Highlight.Off again with a short stay at Dornock then onto John o Groats stopping off at Duncansby Head for a bit of birding (not a bad shot eh ).
The other photo is of what they call the Stacks very scenic even better on a nice day ! also teeming with bird life.Moving a bit further north we come to Dunnet Head, this is the most northerly point on mainland Britain with some real good views across to the Orkneys if you can dodge the mist!!!

This is the point when you can’t go any further without doing yourself a mischief ! so its time to be heading back . First stop is the Caravan Club Site at Grumore on the banks of Loch Naver 20 miles away from the nearest shops but lovely views
From here its down to Bonner Bridge and a visit to Shin Falls to see the salmon leaping ( not dissapointed ). A long journey next down to Blairgowrie and the RSPB site on Loch of the Lowes to see the nesting Ospreys and their one chick, the next move is to Kinross on the banks of Loch Leven for our 16 mile bike ride (a bit sore ) and finally a change of route so that we can meet up with Sid and Lil for our final night away with a much deserved night in the pub together. Cheers
